What happens inside a coffee bean when it heats up, expands, and cracks during roasting? We'll go through the whole process from coffee berry processing to a cup, looking at how heat, water, and pressure change coffee. We'll figure out why the bean needs to rest after roasting, where bubbles come from during brewing, and why we wet the coffee first and wait. We'll talk about how grind size and water temperature affect brewing and why a usual drink can surprise when cooled. At the end, we'll try coffee of different roast degrees and temperatures to feel these effects.
